Medication is extremely effective in treating the core symptoms of ADHD and is utilized in most cases. However, occasionally there are patients who do not respond well to or may have contraindications (such as an allergy or existing medical condition) to taking certain kinds of medications. It is also not uncommon for patients to need treatments in addition to medication to optimize their symptom control. These “nonmedical” interventions may include behavioral therapy, parent training, occupational therapy, and educational interventions (IEPs or 504 plans.) Dr. Ludlow will recommend a treatment plan tailored to each child’s unique needs in accordance with parents’ comfort level, and can assist with referrals for additional services.
